The common broccoli we often see is the bud part on the top of the plant, but here we harvest long and thin stems that grow as lateral buds.

Broccoli is rich in carotene, vitamin C, dietary fiber and folate and it is soft, sweet, and similar to asparagus.

6 steps to harvest the palatable broccoli stem

1. Prepare soil

Prepare soil (nutrient soil). The soil may be stirred with base fertilizer.

2. Sow seeds.

When the soil is ready, it's time to sow broccoli stems.After flattening the soil on the surface, notch about 1cm in the soil with finger.

Sow the seeds one by one so that they are about 2cm apart and then cover them with a thin layer of soil.Seeds will germinate within a few days.Water after covering the seeds with soil.No fertilization is needed at this time.

3. Water frequently.

Once you start growing the broccoli stem, check the condition of the soil on a daily basis.Be sure to water when the topsoil becomes dry.Give plenty of water to make the water overflow from the bottom of the pot.However, in case of too much water given immediately after sowing, the seeds sown may flow out,so gently water.

4. When the two leaves are ready, thin out the seedlings.

Halve the well-growing plants when two leaves appear.Later, when four to five leaves appear, carefully select two robust seedlings.

After thinning out the seedlings, gently shovel the soil to avoid shaking the seedlings.

5. Remove flower buds.

When you plant the broccoli stem, the flower buds will form at the tip of the stem.This is known as "top flower bud".When the top buds are about ping-pong ball sizes, cut them off with scissors.This helps the growth of the branches and buds.

6. When the lateral bud grows and the flower bud becomes tight, it will indicate that the harvest has come.

The lateral bud emerging from between stems and leaves is called "bolt".
